The Problem
Getting better sleep shouldn't be so hard.
Traditional Sleep Care
- Getting started can involve referrals, appointments and multiple providers before testing begins.
- Testing may mean leaving home: Testing may require an overnight sleep-lab study.
- The process can feel disconnected across multiple providers.
- Costs can vary by province and insurance coverage.
- Treatment may require another provider for CPAP therapy.
- Ongoing support varies: The level of help you receive after starting treatment depends on your provider
- Start online: Begin your sleep-health journey from home
- Sleep in your own bed: Eligible patients complete a simple, one-night home sleep test
- Know who reviews your test: Results reviewed by a physician licensed in your province.
- Understand your results:A Revma Sleep Coach explains your results and next steps.

Your answers for Better Sleep and wellbeing
Is an at-home sleep test right for me?
An at-home sleep test may be appropriate if you regularly snore, wake up gasping or choking, feel excessively tired during the day, experience morning headaches, or have been told that you stop breathing while asleep.
Before we ship your test, you will complete a medical questionnaire and a brief virtual eligibility consultation. This helps determine whether an at-home test is appropriate for you. Some people may require an in-lab sleep study or additional medical evaluation instead.
The best way to begin depends on how you intend to pay:
- If you plan to use private insurance: We recommend first speaking with your family doctor or another licensed physician in your province. Your insurer may require a physician's assessment, referral, prescription, prior authorization or a specific type of sleep study before providing coverage.
- If you plan to pay directly: You can begin with Revma without waiting for insurance authorization. We will guide you through the eligibility assessment, at-home test, physician interpretation and next steps.
If insurance reimbursement is important to you, confirm your plan's exact requirements before purchasing a test or CPAP equipment.
What happens if I am diagnosed with sleep apnea?
If the interpreting physician diagnoses sleep apnea, Revma will contact you by email and text message with a link to schedule a phone or virtual consultation with a Revma Sleep Coach.
During the consultation, your Sleep Coach will:
- Explain the physician's findings in clear language
- Review the recommendations contained in your report
- Answer your non-medical questions about beginning treatment
- Help you understand your CPAP machine and mask options if CPAP therapy is recommended
- Explain the support available through Revma Care
Your next step will depend on your preferred payment pathway:
- Using private insurance: Contact your insurer and work with your family doctor or another licensed physician in your province to ensure that you have the assessments, referrals, prescriptions and other documentation required by your plan.
- Paying directly: If CPAP therapy is prescribed, you may purchase your equipment directly without waiting for insurance authorization.
You are free to purchase your equipment from Revma or any other provider you choose.
Will I receive a CPAP prescription?
A CPAP prescription is issued only when a licensed physician determines that CPAP therapy is clinically appropriate.
If you plan to use private insurance, we recommend beginning with your family doctor or another licensed physician in your province. Your insurer may require an assessment, referral or prescription obtained through a particular process before it will reimburse your treatment. A prescription issued following the Revma process does not guarantee insurance coverage.
If you choose Revma's direct-pay pathway, your test will be interpreted by a sleep physician licensed in your province. If sleep apnea is diagnosed and CPAP therapy is recommended, the appropriate prescription will be provided.
Whether you intend to use insurance or pay directly does not influence the physician's diagnosis or treatment recommendation.
Can I submit the sleep test or CPAP to my insurance?
Coverage depends on your insurer, employer plan, province and policy requirements.
If you intend to use private insurance, the best first step is to contact your insurer and speak with your family doctor or another licensed physician in your province before making a purchase. Your plan may require:
- An assessment by your doctor
- A physician's referral
- A prescription issued before the purchase
- Prior authorization from the insurer
- A particular type of sleep study
- Testing or treatment from an approved provider
- A diagnostic report and itemized receipt
Revma can provide the documents generated through its services, but we cannot guarantee that your insurer will accept those documents or reimburse your purchase.
If you do not have insurance - or prefer not to use it - you can access Revma through our direct-pay pathway without waiting for insurance approval.
Can I use Revma without private insurance?
Yes. Private insurance is not required to use Revma.
Revma's direct-pay pathway is designed for people who:
- Do not have private insurance
- Do not have coverage for sleep testing or CPAP equipment
- Prefer not to submit an insurance claim
- Want to avoid a lengthy or complicated reimbursement process
- Are prepared to pay out of pocket to begin the process sooner
You can purchase your at-home sleep test directly from Revma. If the interpreting physician diagnoses sleep apnea and recommends CPAP therapy, you may also purchase your treatment directly.
Paying out of pocket does not remove any of Revma's clinical safeguards. Your test is still subject to an eligibility assessment, physician interpretation and a prescription when required.
Should I contact my insurer before purchasing?
Yes, if you intend to request reimbursement.
Before purchasing, ask your insurer whether your plan covers:
- At-home sleep apnea testing
- Physician interpretation
- CPAP machines, masks and accessories
- Purchases from an online Canadian provider
- Ongoing CPAP support services
You should also ask whether you must first see your family doctor or another licensed physician in your province and whether a referral, prescription or prior authorization is required.
If you prefer to pay directly and do not intend to submit an insurance claim, you may begin with Revma without contacting an insurer.
Use your insurance or pay directly - the choice is yours. If you plan to claim through insurance, confirm its requirements and consult a physician in your province before purchasing. If you prefer to pay directly, Revma offers a simple path from testing to treatment.
